The THREE “Great”s In The Bible

May 25, 2016

I recently heard that there are actually 3 “Great”s in the Bible, not 2. The 2 we are familiar with are:

The Great Commandment:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.” Matthew 22:37

And the Great Commission:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

However, the third “Great” is the Great VISION in Revelation:

“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb…” Revelation 7:9

This scene, the first time I stopped and imagined it, took my breath away. As a graduate of LSU, the largest group that I have ever seen in one place is Tiger Stadium on a fall Saturday night. Nearly 100,000 people in one stadium energizes and astounds the first time you see it. However, even in that huge football stadium, I can look on the opposite side and decipher heads and t-shirt colors. What Paul describes is different. In his vision, he sees “a great multitude that no one could number.” That is a LOT of people. To think that Jesus has ransomed not just every tribe, tongue, and nation, but also a MULTITUDE from those places is understatedly encouraging.

At MCWA Headquarters, though our day-to-day tasks are usually at computers, in meetings, or occasionally at a conference, we labor with the Great Vision in mind. We have been blasting your emails and social media pages with our 50/50 Campaign the last couple months. The goal of the campaign was to raise money to continue our behind-the-scenes work so that laborers in Cameroon can continue their frontline work without worrying about countless administration details. We are so thankful for all of our donors who give faithfully every year. As we approach our May 31 deadline to reach our goal of 50 new donors, we are encouraged by those of you who have sacrificially said ‘yes’ to giving. We have reached 17 new donors at $50/month! Thank you! We also trust that if God is in this, He will provide the remainder of our goal. Of course, we welcome new donors anytime of the year!

We also want to thank those of you who give to the Great Vision through other outlets outside of MCWA – through cross-cultural workers, other non-profits, humanitarian foundations, churches, and other local ministries you support. We are all in this for the same purpose – to see Jesus glorified by all people groups. May your giving, no matter where it goes, be used in mighty ways for Jesus’ name and glory!
