I contacted Andy and Kari in January 2013 because they are missionaries at my church. It was then that I found out about the opportunity to teach in Cameroon. I served from March 2013 to May 2013. My absolute favorite part was getting to know the children. They were amazing and so easy to teach. I also learned so much about different teaching methods from their permanent teacher, Karlyn, who had been there all year.
I found everyone in Cameroon very friendly and talkative. At first, it was very intimidating as I didn't know the language. However, after a couple of weeks, I got used to greeting everyone who walked past. I loved how accepting they were, especially when doing prayer rounds in the hospital. They just loved that we listened to them!
I learned so much about the importance of love. I saw the love that the missionaries show the local people and how by showing love, you can spark questions about Christianity in a non-Christian culture.
The Lord taught me so much while I was away, it is pretty hard to pin point. I learned so much about the importance of love. I saw the love that the missionaries show the local people and how by showing love, you can spark questions about Christianity in a non-Christian culture. Not only did I feel God’s love for me, but also for the nations of the world!
I felt very welcomed there. Everyone was so hospitable and there weren’t many evenings when I wasn’t invited somewhere to eat or play games, which was such a blessing! I really enjoyed our prayer evenings on Fridays. There is so much prayer that goes on there, which is fantastic. God is at the center of everything MCWA does!
